he Tikveshiya wine region is located in the central part of Macedonia. For many centuries our ancestors grew grapes on the hillsides of this exceptional valley. Archeological sites and artifacts show evidence of wine production that dates back to Roman times.

During the Socialist era three large wineries existed in the Tikveshiya region, however the private initiative was directed primarily towards the planting of vines for grape growing. The intensive planting of vineyards in the region during the 1960s has made it possible for good harvests to produce up to 120 million kilograms of grapes. Since the transition to the market economy several small private wineries, producing high quality wines, have opened in the region.

The production of such a significant quantity of high quality grapes, beautiful landscape, friendly and hard-working townspeople, and the convenience of highway and rail routes passing through the Tikveshiya region, provide all the necessities for continued investment into and development of this region. We believe that in the next few years private initiative will turn this region into the “Napa Valley” of the Balkans.

The Demir Kapija micro region has long proven itself to possess ideal climate and soil conditions for grape growing. This special place is located in the southeastern part of the Tikveshiya region, situated below the Kozuf Mountain, where the river Doshnica, known for its’ sparklingly clean waters, flows into the Vardar River.  The area is best described as picturesque. The valley presents a true challenge for small, pleasant walks, or extreme sports for the daring who will enjoy hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and hunting on and around the Kozuf Mountain.  Visitors also won’t want to miss the marvelous spectacle of the Demir Kapija Gorge which presents a natural connection to the Aegean Sea.

After one look at the breathtaking landscape and a sip of the wonderful wine produced by the distinctive grapes of this region, you’ll know exactly why we chose to build our winery in the Demir Kapija micro region.
